Oh Boris, what have you done?

This is another example of policy implemented purely on a rational basis without actually considering the practicality of the matters. Anybody who’s used the London transport service on a Friday or Saturday evening will know how institutionalised drinking has become on it. It’s become an accepted part of life that when you go up to the top deck there are going to be a group of people up there drinking, laughing and playing music from their mobile phones. Likewise it’s become a part of life to get on the Tube and have to step over spilt beer cans or shuffle passed underage kids taking their first sips from a cheap wine bottle they stole from their parents. How is this supposed to work?

Well the plans are there that the bus / tube staff are supposed to sort it out, step in and tell them to take it easy and if need be confiscate it. Yeah… like that’s going to happen. The only staff you see on the tube or busses are the drivers and usually they’re stuck in their cab, happy to be safe behind plexiglass. Are you telling me that the driver is going to get out and confront a group of louts by himself, take the drinks off them and dispose of it? Not going to happen and judging by the usual apathy on the tube towards any sort of anti-social behaviour, they shouldn’t expect any members of the public to step in and help.

Whenever anything bad happens on a bus, which the driver disagrees with the only solution is to stop the bus, turn off the engine and wait until the offenders get the message and get off or a couple of passengers pipe up like some sort of militia and tell the offenders to get off the bus. Usually this ends either in angry confrontation or the offenders do leave but make it their duty to piss off everyone else on their way out but threatening or insulting the people who stood up to them.

The only thing I could think off that would make this remotely workable is if you put a couple of police officers on every train and every bus throughout London and that ain’t going to happen. A recent report showed that the mountains of CCTV that has been installed in recent years has failed to make any sort of impact on crime and this was something that I thought to be fairly obvious. A security camera won’t stop you getting knifed, all it will do is videotape your last few breaths so your parents have a bloody and horrific mental image to remember you by.

It’s going to be interesting, as a Londoner, to see how this pans out but forgive me for being cynical about Boris’ idea.

yeah but boris wants to bring back bus conductors/bouncers. and lets face it considering his plans to also bring back the route masters would you fuck with a 6 ft 7 bouncer built like a brick shit house who is likely to throw you out the back door?

I'm sure 'health and safety' would get in the way of that. And it won't be a 6ft 7 brick shit house, it'll be a short weeny immigrant who's too scared to do anything about it.

indeed, its one of those "good idea in principle, but completely impractical"

Boris still make me laugh though....although, its scary the amount of shit he actually controls now =/

/Concur.

The problem is I think, that this is the sort of thing I come up with. The difference is no one listens to me... this man is far more dangerous.
